- The small group of stars known as
- the Pleiades often catches the eye
- when facing east on an autumn
- evening. This distinctive
- cluster has loomed large in the
- legends of many cultures and has
- been identified by such names as
- "Seven Sisters" by the Greeks and
- Romans, "Suburu" (yes, just like
- the car!) by the Japanese and "Las
- Sieta Cabrillas" (seven goats) by
- the Spanish. For modern day
- astronomers it is an excellent
- example of an "open cluster", a
- group of young stars in the spiral
- arms of the Milky Way physically
- bound together by gravity.
